The TULIP ladies group at my church is currently doing a book study on the book Humility by Andrew Murray. It’s truly amazing all the meat that is packed into this tiny little book! I wanted to share some areas I’ve been underlining in my reading time.
“If humility is the first, the all-inclusive grace of the life of Jesus — if humility is the secret of His atonement — then the health and strength of our spiritual life will depend entirely upon putting this grace first and making humility the chief quality we admire in Him, the chief attribute we ask of Him, the one thing for which we sacrifice all else.”
“Look not at pride only as an unbecoming temper, nor at humility only as a decent virtue: for the one is death and the other is life; the one is hell and the other is heaven.”
“If you could see what every stirring of pride does to your soul, you would beg of everyone you meet to tear the viper from you, tough with the loss of a hand or an eye. If you could see what a sweet, divine, transforming power there in in humility, how it expels the poison of your nature, and makes room for the Spirit of God to live in you, you would rather wish to be the footstool of all the world than want the smallest degree of it.”
