No 'Poo: Day One

So today I officially gave up Shampoo and Conditioner. I was inspired by this post and this one. (By the way Keeper of The Home is a wonderful blog to follow!) Those two posts caused me to delve into as much internet info as I could find on going “No Poo.” I also looked up some of our current shampoo and conditioner in the Skin Deep database and was less than impressed.

So. I just got out of the shower a little bit ago and my hair feels good. It wasn’t too tangled or anything , it felt great. What we are doing is washing with baking soda and water mixed together and then doing and apple cider vinegar rinse.

I’ll let ya know if this ends up being a permanent change.

A lot of people know that we are in the midst of cutting out processed foods. I’m not wanting to put additives and chemicals into my children’s bodies. I realized lately they I’m not okay with smearing all kinds of chemicals on their scalps and the biggest organ they have: the skin. That’s the main reason for our move toward all things natural. I know a lot of people will think I’m crazy as I announce different changes with are making to our lifestyles, but that’s okay … I’ve always been told I’m some kind of crazy 😉

  1. I actually tried this once and it pretty much made my hair look disgusting. It looked dirty and really destroyed like it was bleached or something.

  2. Do you remember when I tried this awhile back? Maybe I didn't know you yet. I blooped about it. Anyway, I hope it works out for you. I do remember the vinegar made my hair feel really soft and so easy to get the comb through!

  3. new blog design again. :pyou do know that i'm going to mention that every time i see a new one right?i'm also here to tell you that you are crazy.

  4. Shannon – Yes I've heard that people with dry hair only need to use water and do the brush thing. I'm hoping to eventually get to washing mine once a week or something like that. Lauren- How long did you try it for? I've read that it goes through phases and some of them are like what you described.

  5. I only tried it for like 3 days because I couldn't stand it. Plus, I thought it was annoying and complicating. haha. The only reason I tried it is because Erika mentioned it along time ago and I was curious. But I could never stay with it.. I love the scent of Shampoo.

  6. I currently use an organic shampoo. I usually only wash my hair every 3 days or so. It keeps my hair nice and healthy. I don't think I could do this no 'poo thing. I admire your quest to make your home and family more healthy and Earth-friendly.
